How has the development of museums altered the way in which exhibitions should interact with visitors?
In contemporary society where attracting visitors of the museums is crucial for the sake of the existence of these institutions, understanding the relationships people are having with museums, gain particular significance. This presentation emerges from a long term research-assisted work, developing the Estonian National Museum, which will be re-opened at September 2016 in a new museum building. The preparation process of moving a museum from small temporary facilities to a modern new museum space involves re-thinking and re-designing the relationship between museum and the public. The talk will focus on the experience we gained at the Exhibition Lab – an exhibition space at the Estonian National Museum which experimented with audience engagement at the museum in the context of exhibitions.
